The Liberal Democrats have a proud record in Montgomeryshire, Powys, of representing local people on our local councils, on the National Assembly in Wales and at the Westminster Parliament.
Lembit Öpik has been the Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire since 1997 (succeeding Alex Carlile), with Mick Bates being elected to the Welsh Assembly for Montgomeryshire at their first election in 1999.
LOCAL MP SPEAKS OUT FOR SHREWSBURY A&E

During Health Questions earlier this week, Lembit Öpik, Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire, questioned the Minister for Public Health over the lack of mechanisms for local representatives to express concern over reconfiguration of Hospital services.

Welsh Liberal Democrats lead Assembly into cross party consensus on Copenhagen

Following a Welsh Liberal Democrat debate the Welsh Assembly has agreed, with cross party support, to reduce emissions by 40% by 2020. Shadow Minister for the Environment and Sustainability, Mick Bates AM, is now writing to Gordon Brown calling on the Prime Minister to take forward the message to Copenhagen that Wales and the UK is committed as a nation to agree a vital new global deal, to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change.
