MORE CHOCOLATE, LESS CARDBOARD - ÖPIK

Lembit at Cadbury's launch

As supermarkets all over Wales make headway in reducing the use of plastic bags, Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire, showed his support for cutting waste at the parliamentary launch of Cadbury's eco-egg:

"It is important that individuals make their own personal commitments to tackling climate change: whether through adjusting the thermostat or shopping with reusable bags. Cadbury's have made it simple for consumers to join the fight to cut down packaging this Easter with their newly designed Easter egg.

"Liberal Democrats have long campaigned to reduce excess packaging on all products and so it's great to see such a major brand lead the way in working towards this goal.

Easter is one of the confectionery industry's most 'packaging intense' times of year. To tackle this, Cadbury has launched a range of eggs to reflect the concerns of UK consumers to reduce packaging: this Easter, the amount of plastic used will be reduced by 247 tonnes and cardboard by 115 tonnes, saving over 2,000 trees as a result.

"For once, it would be good for everyone to feel green while eating chocolate this Easter!"
